Philadelphia police are looking for a Franklinville teen who never returned home from school Monday.
Nakyra Newson, 16, of the 3200 block of North Marshall Street, was reported missing by her mother.
Newson’s mother told police that her daughter called at 3 p.m. Monday to say she was on her way home from school, riding the SEPTA Route 18 bus with a friend.
Police said further investigation revealed that a female friend last saw Newson getting off a SEPTA Route 23 bus at Broad Street and Erie Avenue.
After Newson exited, the friend rode the route the rest of the way home, according to investigators.
Police said there hasn’t been any activity on any of Newson’s social media accounts and that her cell phone has been turned off.
Newson has never gone missing in the past, according to authorities.
She is described as a 5-foot-9-inch tall, blonde-haired black female of 285 pounds. She was last seen wearing black jeans, a gray-and-black sweatshirt and a navy button-up hooded sweater. She was carrying a cream-colored bag with puppies on it.
Anyone with information on Newson’s whereabouts is asked to contact Det. DeMas of the East Detectives Division at 215-686-3243, or to call 911.
